Yandex Replaces Bing And Become's The World's 4th Top Search Engine

The Yandex search engine from Russia recently surpassed Microsoft's search engine Bing, Which makes Yandex the top 4th search engine. 

According to comScore, these are the top 4 search engines and their market shares :

  • 1. Google -  62%
  • 2. Baidu -   8.2%
  • 3. Yahoo -   4.9%
  • 4. Yandex - 2.8%
  • 5. Bing - 2.5%


The Yandex search was launched on September 23, 1997 by Arkady Volozh and Ilya Segalovich. Yandex already has about 60% market shares in Russia. The website also operates in Belarus,Kazakhstan,Ukraine and Turkey.

Yandex's first entry to the top 10 search engines was by the end of 2007. It earlier overtook Bing in November 2012. The search engine is very popular in the local language version. But in the English version internationally, it is yet to make some impacts.

The growth of Yandex has been underpinned by the rapid growth of Russia’s Internet penetration. “It’s thanks to the Russian audience that the number of Yandex searches grew,” said Yandex spokesperson Tatiana Komarova.
