Blogging Basics Series [Part 1] - Setting Up Your Blog
Through all these years, blogging has gained popularity. This is because we see a lot of people who became bloggers, because of passion or professional knowledge and started making money out of it.
But nowadays, thinking blogging as the easiest source of income, many people start blogging. Many just start a blog on a free hosting and start publishing random articles. This is the reason why many newbie bloggers fail from the first step itself !
From today, we will be publishing a series of articles that may help you wipe out all questions to set-up your blog and make you a better blogger !
1. Which Niche Should You Choose For Blogging ?
Choosing a niche for blogging should depend on number of factors. Below are some factors that you should care while choosing a niche to blog :
Don't Miss ---> Tips To Reduce Your Blog's Load Speed !
- Your interest and knowledge about the topic : It is really important because if you opt for a niche which you don't like or interested of, then you may find it difficult to write articles and prove your content worthy !
- Search Engine Value Of The Topic : This will determine the amount of traffic you're blog will be able to drive from search engines.
- Importance Of The Topic : There are some bloggers, who start a blog on specific hot current topics. For example, there are blogs that write articles about specs and rumors on Samsung Galaxy S4 which has search value now. But later, when the popularity of that topic decreases, they'll either have to change niche or start a new blog !
- The Competiton Of The Topic : Choosing a topic that has both less competition and more search value will help you gain more visibility for your blog.
- Monetization Value Of The Topic : Mostly, you might be starting a blog to earn. To monetize your blog, you're topic matters as the ads or monetization sources should be relevant to the topic for you to earn more.
2. Sub-domain v/s Custom Domain :
The first or basic mistake that almost all newbie bloggers do is that they start a blog on a free platform, mainly blogger.
The first step to attain success in blogging is to atleast have a custom domain. This increases your credibility, followers and response. People are likely to subscribe,re-visit and trust articles from an custom owned domain.
And more-over it will help you in the long run. If you start a blog in a sub-domain, and eventually attain success, somewhere in the future you may need to upgrade to custom domain. Such a move in the future may destroy your progress. So it is better to start perfectly in the beginning.
3. Wordpress or Blogger ?
This is the second most asked question. People often get confused about the differences between these platforms.
I won't go for more technical definitions, but basically speaking,
- Blogger is suitable for bloggers who is stepping up to their blogging career,
- While Wordpress can be used, if you've been quite a while to blogging.
Because, Wordpress needs more concern, is a bit more vulnerable to hackers than blogger and gives you more technical control over your blog than blogger. So to deal with all these stuffs, you also need to be a matured blogger !
